Fantastic atmosphere for most of the second half, but what happened to everyone's voices first half?! One of the biggest games of the season and our section was quiet as fcuk for most of it. Me and Crofty were stood just to the front of our little section and belting out every song full whack, trying to get others around us going etc, and they just looked at us as if we were from another planet! And towards the end of the first half when there was only about 3/4 of us singing that "running round the high street end..." song and on about the 3rd time of singing it someone laughed and told us to shut up! At least we were trying to get an atmosphere going instead of just standing in silence waiting for summat to happen! I've been ill with a cold all week, off school monday, only went in Tuesday to show that I was well enough to go to the game. I now have no voice left at all, my throat is killing me, I actually thought I was gonna throw up when I got home. As I said though, the atmosphere really picked up second half, but the first half was so dissapointing, especially for such a big game. I think the Cambridge support deserves credit though, easilly the best fans to visit us this season, and out-sung us first half. I love it when there is a big away following at The Rec and it usually spurs us on to sing louder when there's competition and creates a great two-way atmosphere, but that just didn't happen first half.
Often out-numbered, Never out-sung - Remember that.
I think you're on to something there mate, the drums can totally kill the atmosphere at times. I think I've said it before but it's no coincidence (sp?) that "no one likes us" and "flying high" are our two loudest songs. No drums and only voices = brilliant sound. The drumming at times can drown us out. I remember at one point tonight we were singing "top of the league and we're having a laugh" without the drums, just clapping and it sounded brilliant. Is there any chance that we could lay off the drums a bit, just for one match, just to see if it has a positive/negative impact on the atmosphere?
I'm not saying no drums at all, just over-drumming is doing more harm then good IMO.
Should support all the time, winning-drawing or losing to help the players get that extra bit of confidence so they can go on and take that confidence in scoring or playing either better.
Exactly. If anything the team need our support more when they're not playing so well.
I'd also like to mention during the first half when Chappie was down the front trying to get everyone going and people around me just laughed, well I say well done mate, if everyone in the East Bank had half the amount of passion he has, the place would be rocking for 90 minutes every week.
My throat is still fcuking killing me now, I got a couple of songs going but there were so many people who couldn't be bothered to sing and urge on the team it pissed me off
I think you are all being a little hyper critical. I stood in the East Bank 1st half at the back but slightly to the right. There were several songs that were sung by most of the EB and around into the North stand (Come on You Shots in particular). Admittedly it wasn't rocking like it can do, but the noise level was OK. 2nd half we stood in the South West corner. so slightly closer to the Cambridge section. When Cambridge sang, they were fairly loud, but our vocal backing was much stronger in the last 20 minutes or so. You won't have heard it in the EB, but on a few occassions the whole of the North Stand and even down on the SW concreate slab were singing. The backing sounded great from the North stand - and I am convinced that is what drove the players on in the last 20. We really should have won it in the end. If Lee had done his job properly, the ball wouldn't have bobbled so badly for Kirk and I am sure he would have scored that chance with an extra second of time. All credit to those that tried to generate the extra backing. We know it makes a difference to the team and that is why we need to keep it going. Stevenage won't bring many on Sunday, but we need to try and raise our 'game' especially for the cameras!!
It just annoys me when there are people in the East Bank, usually to the left of us, who just stand there are do nothing? Is there nothing we can do to get them to join in with the atmosphere? Them lot standing there 1) Makes us look stupid in front of away fans because they think it's a creche, and 2) They just stand there and do **** all! I have a mate who came today, because he works with Ezylet and they gave him a few tickets, and he said he loved it! His first game, and he was picking up the songs already! Why can't everyone else do that?
I cant speak now! Atmosphere last night in my opinion was awful, OK at time we were loud but the atmosphere was dire. I think the drums drown out every song! and the bass needs a new skin! Back to normal Sunday lads come on!
ok lads......yes, the drums drowned out pretty much everything. i think you could see i was trying to get the crowd going but none of them seemed interested or even bothered to sing!
also....i see what some of u mean. alot of the songs sound better without drums so i will not play for them if thats what you want!
im also going to tune the bass drum for fatboy on sunday. it doesnt need a new skin dan, its just sunk because of lee's ferocious playing and the cold weather sumtimes makes drumskins do that! lol........it does it to mine quite alot!

So why carry on just as loud or bang harder
I'm not saying 'Don't play the drum', but just think about it and keep it in moderation. The drum(s) are there to aid the atmosphere, not create it.
"You lot can make some noise if you like in that end of yours. But that drum! You might as well just let the chap bang it on his own in an empty stand sometimes as it often drowned out most of yuour chanting."
Gotta take my hat off to the Cambridge fans......They were on form and out sung us for some periods of the game. Alot of the time different sections of the East bank were singin different songs which didn't help.....We were a bit out of sink. I'm not just blaming every1 else tho as I don't think I put in 100% last night either....Think it was the whole banning of the flags that got me down. No excuses for Sunday tho, we got our flags back so we gotta get that EB rockin again!!
i can see where your coming from about the drums being a bit loud, makes it more of a challange for the singers to try and drown out the drums!which is cool , trouble is alot of the fringe singers dont really join in with the singing till the drum fires up!! mind you iam not surprised the atmosphere was a bit muted after the childish stunt the club pulled off not letting the use of flags,I guess the've sort of apologized on shots web, Anyway who cares The Shots Are Going Up!!!
Its a bit poor when the chairman has a chat with the fans at farsley last saturday in the away end then bans the flags tuesday Big game like that? whats that all about.
Had nothing to do with the chairman as far as I know Baz......It was the cheif stewards decision which thankfully has been over ruled by the Board of Directors. So thankfully all banners and flags will be back on the EB Sunday night. Just a shame the attmosphere was affected by power crazy stewards on Tuesday who are hell bent on stopping people from enjoying the match attmosphere. Also it dashed all the hard work put in by people for the planned display against Cambridge. Big shame but lets make sure Stevenage is even better now!
