Beau (Yateley Shot) has been moaning over facebook to me about the drums. He doesnt think theyre needed and according to him theyre all a waste of time.
i like the drums, they give an extra dimension to the support, but sometimes they can get a bit loud and can drown everyone out. having said that, often they're a good way of encouraging people to sing up as well. i guess, as the phrase goes, 'everything in moderation'.
Drums are awesome and the envy of many rival fans. I was speaking to a Rotherham fan in the pub the other night.....He was talking about how good our 2 drummers are and wanted to meet them. He was hoping to persuade Tim to go in the home end to play the drum for them as he was so impressed with his drumming. So much so that they didn't bother to bring their own drum as they knew it would just get out done by ours.
Tim and Elvis: Keep playing the drums loud. If it drowns out the singing, then we simply arn't singing loud enough!
Beau: If you don't like drums, then go and support Farnborough!

To be honest, I don't like them. Never have, and probably never will.
EDIT: To be fair, looking on Facebook, the whole thing started due to Tim going to watch Portsmouth tomorrow instead of his "beloved" Shots. Tim, why are you going to Portsmouth tomorrow, I thought you support Aldershot/Man United?
I love the drums to be honest, I think it's a big part of our identity both in terms of the club as a whole and the RBA. And I think all this talk of us being louder without them is nonsense, particularly the idea that the drums supposedly drown out the singing...
As an aside, I find it amazing that some RBA members seem to take enjoyment from constantly picking holes in others... So what if someone goes to another game, so what if someone chooses to do something else with their Saturday's once in a while...
We're all diehard Aldershot fans, we've all got a common theme in being the 12th man for our team. Let's just concentrate on that, instead of trying to score points over each other.
Why do the drums always cause a problem ??? i have said to rob that when i was parked up redan road waiting for soph and chappie one night i could hear the singing and the drums and to me thats a good thing! Also the match that tim couldnt attend this season meant the eastbank didnt have the same ring to it so why stop a good thing !!! it shows we support out team regardless of the result and we still make noise that make other fans jealous !
imo if you dont like the drums go and stand in the north stand with the other moaners!!!!
Tim, since this thread has "spilled over" from a discussion between yourself, Beau, Wob, and whoever else on Facebook, I think it was slightly irrelevant to come on here and post about it, just because you knew you'd get a positive response. Keep personal bickering to MSN or whatever else you use, please.
As a general response, drums are a part of support at Aldershot. Love them or loathe them, they will be there. At most, if not all home games, there won't be a problem with them drowning out the singing. Away games are a mixed bag. Sometimes drums aren't needed, sometimes they can help. Personally, I like to think of myself as intelligent enough to know when to drum, and when not to. Elvis and Tim should be the same, if not, they shouldn't be drumming.
We all know that some people like drums, and some don't. Let's leave it at that. If this thread gets out of hand, or starts becoming personal, it will be dealt with.
And no, I'm not trying to "Hitler-ize" this thread, I'm restoring some sense.
I think, with the exception of Tim, everyones post has been pretty justified, clear and fair.
I suppose when talking to Tim about it I hadn't really considered both points.
As Ben mentioned, I think at Away games were we are going to take minimal support, we should strongly consider not taking the drums, at long distance games, I don't neccessarily think they aid the singing, they simply drown it.
Burton away last year is one example I can think of....
So, Tims taken this completely taken it out of context to say I never want to see a drum again, I just think that we don't NEED the drums to be as loud as we know we can be.
