I would just like to have a moan this morning and it's not about how the team are performing or how the atmosphere is at games, it's about some of the RBA members language whilst attending away trips.
I know we all swear at football matches and it's fairly common to do so. I will admit I was probably the first one shouting abuse at the ref last night when the decisions weren't going are way. I mean the 'f' word imo isn't too bad (but you still shouldn't really have to say it) you probably hear it every other minute or so during a football match. However the 'c' word is popping up to much lately and I don't like it. Especially when some of these people using the word are rba committee members and senior figures within our group. Young children and women attend these matches and If they're suppose to look upto us on matchdays then we're setting a very bad example. What happens when these children go back home and start using the term around the house or at school becuase the think it's cool. Whats wrong with the good old fashioned words like 'cobblers lino' or the old classic 'you should have gone to specsavers ref' LOL
You have to think when we travel to places like Bury and we only take 150-200 people, these are the people that have been going for 50, 60 years and ok they might be the boring old supporters coach brigade. However they have been watching the shots before me or you were in nappies. They deserve some respect and not a bunch of adults/teenagers shouting out the word C**t every 2 minutes. So what If they dont stand up when we sing 'stand up if you love the shots' are they less of a hardcore shots fan then the dedicated rba followers.
It needs to be sorted out or I for one will stop my membership with the rba and sort out other travel arrangements to away games and stand with other people.
Here Here Dave. I admit like some others I can get carried away, and a bit frustrated with the team because we all want ATFC to succeed, hence the air can turn very blue in my vicinity at times.
However, this is a point well made here and doesn't reflect very well on us a group, and in addition just shows up certain individuals (mine included at times!) complete lack of vocabulary and intelligence.
So lets try and start as we mean to go by using less of THAT word. Cheers.
Fair post, Shearer. Again, I'm another one that does occasionally go over the top sometimes. And obviously, like you say, everyone on the terrace deserves some respect. I agree to calm it down a bit more, and hope others follow lead.
Very fair point shearer. I put my hand up and say i use that certain word more often than it should be used, and it can be very easy to use at football cause we all are passionate and want the team to do well. But i got to agree it needs to be cut down.
I am somewhat stunned (and hugely embarrassed) to learn that some of the above is aimed at me. I absolutely hate the 'c' word and thought that I very rarely use it. I had a fair bit to drink last night and read this earlier and assumed it was aimed at others (especially as I wasn't standing that close to the main group of RBA last night) as I obviously don't use the word. My brother has just corrected me on this misconception and told me that I did use it last night - aimed at the ref, but only the times he made a bad decision (IMO)! I am somewhat disgusted with myself and apologise to anyone who heard me use the word. It obviously means that I need to reduce my alcohol intake and take a chill pill. Dave - you are 100% correct in what you say - and I am humbled by the fact that I need someone who is not even half my age to point me on the straight and narrow
Dont be to harsh on your slef Tony, there a lot of people who use it (me included) and to be fair I am someone who uses it to much as well. I get the impression Shearer not aiming it at any individual, to me it comes across its at amied at everyone. I am sure he will correct me if I am wrong tho.
I used the word cun7 on more than one occasion last night, like I always do. Its just one of the words I use when I'm angry and I couldn't think of a better way to perfectly describe that ref! Lets face it, its just a word. It can't harm anyone and why should it be anymore offensive than TWAT or VVANKER?
I go to football matches to support my team and vent off my anger which builds up over the week. I only aim the abuse at the opposition players/fans and match officials. This is because I'm passionate about the Shots and I want them to win.
I hope the day never comes but if it does, the day that swearing is banned at football matches will be the day I stop going. I like to let myself go on the terraces so that I give it my all in supporting the Shots. I will continue to do this and won't change the way I am.
The only time I would hold back at a football match would be if I was sat in a family stand. This is where I will be taking my son when he is old enough to go, away from bad mouthed loud gits like myself. Perhaps other people that get offended by this kind of language should also think about watching their football from the family stand?
I have to be honest, I hate the swearing at matches, I think its totally unnecessary and am sure that there are other ways with which you can express yourself. Having said that, Im not going to have a go at anyone for doing it, if you want to express your anger or frustration or whatever then you can do it in whatever way you want (within reason!), and I hold my hands up to say that Ive used the odd word or phrase myself (even though I dont like to!). Chappie mentioned about going to a family stand if theres a problem with the language, but I dont see how anyone should be forced to move or stand with different people, away from the RBA and the great atmosphere, just over a thing like swearing. Surely theres some kind of solution rather than resorting to moving to a family stand? IMO some people swear far too often, and I agree with Dave that some people, especially the older people, deserve more respect. Maybe just try and cut it down a bit, thats a start, rather than trying to cut it out completely straight awayI certainly dont see the need for moving away, people should just try to express themselves differently. I include myself in this, and am willing to give it my best shot :) x
I admit I am one of those who use the 'c' word a little bit to much I will try and cut it down to a minimum but it is only aimed at the ref or the opposition fans and players. Anyway I agree that the 'c' word is cropping up a bit to much and as I said I will keep it to a minimum.
At last..... How many times i have said to people not to use that word.... there are a lot of other words you can use but that word just seems to be the worst sounding and meaning word of them all.....
At last you are listening............ No more C word Please
to be fair.....90% of the time my language is a disgrace :(
if you lot want it to stop then i shall do!
I will donate £100 to Phyliss Tuckwell hospice if Tim dosn't swear at Saturday's home match! (Was that a pig that just flew past the window? and at least that can of de-icer I bought for the devil will now come in handy! )
On a personnel note.......I know I swear too much and have made a concious effort to cut it down at home since my son was born. Just havn't got round to the football yet. Maybe when he starts going? At home I have replaced the word Fcuk with Fudge which seems to be working.....Can anyone think of a replacement for Cun7?

when i used to work in a factory i used the C word alot (due to the stress of being a supervisor!) because it offended alot of people a guy told me to say CAKE in place of the C word dont really need to explain why most of you should know !! so ..... the refs a fudging cake !! SWEET!!!!
i will take deans ,swear box to a game? and if i here you say the c & f thing.. i will ask for £10 bar and put it to more beer for the rba day out ? so wee can go off the nut..
I can honestly say i have never said a bad word at football..... well maybe i have!! Shearer good post im just as bad as everyone else sometimes anger and passion can boil over but to be completely honest it's not something i can ever see changing...its more of a society issue than a football issue in all walks of life you have people who are going to use colourful language im not saying its right or wrong just a fact of life, I personally dont have a problem with anyone swearing in front of me at football or in life and most supporters are fully aware if you go on the east bank you will hear some choice words directed at opposing fans, players and the ref. We all have things we would like to change but sometimes it just doesn't happen
also on another note of tuesday night game who was the pri*k that was throwing coins in the second half at the keeper i think that he sould never be aloud at another aldershot game ever as i was quite annoyed along with a few of the rba members on how this was dealt with and yes i did call him a cu*t and that was well aimed we all need to curb our anger but without it i think u would loss the passion that all of us as supporters and members of the rba have
I didn't see that fudging cake throw coins as he was on the other side of a pillar but I heard a few people around me say that he did. Then he came and stood next to me. He seemed to be off his head on something. I pushed him out the way and told him to fudge off!

So If I don't swear as much as other rba members do, does that make me less passionate about my club?
I don't really care what you guys get upto in the eastbank swear as much as you like....but when we travel away to places like Bury/Rochdale where there's only 150/200 shots fans - think before you open your trap. You can be heard very clearly and it's simply not nice. As I stated in my initial post the people that attend these games have been going for years and don't really want to hear THAT word every 2minutes.
So....stick to CAKE from now on...and not too much cake for that matter or your end up with a big belly like me.
