Ok so I'm sure everyone is bored now we have no football to watch on Saturdays. So I thought I'd organise a summer event to relieve the bordom.
Its basically gonna be a sports event where 2 teams compete at 3 different sports and the winning team will lift a trophy. If it goes well and people enjoy it then I will look to do this on an annual basis so the losers will get a chance to win it back the following year. It will be held at a local park in Aldershot TBC. The 3 sports will be Rounders, Football and Cricket but they will be park versions of the games so only a few rules will apply to keep it simple and avoid needing marked pitches, linesmen, umpires ect.
The date for this event will be 20th June 2009 starting at 12 Midday.
Rounders
Each team will bat and field for 2 innings each and the team scoring the most rounders will be the winner. The base's will be marked out by 4 cricket stumps. To score a rounder you need to hit the ball and then run around all 4 base's without the feilding team stumping a base you are running to. If you don't think you can make it all the way round then you can stop at a base and then continue running back to home base once the next batsman has hit the ball. If you get to 4th base without being stumped then you can continue to bat but you don't score a rounder. If you hit the ball and the feilding team either catch the ball without it touching the ground or stump a base before you reach it then you are out. Once all the batting team is out or is still on 1st,2nd or 3rd base then the batting team is declared all out and the teams swap over. The ball must be bowled under arm and when it reaches the batter it must be between head and waist height. Anything else and the ball will be called a no ball. If the batter fails to hit the ball after 3 good balls then he is also declared out. The feilding team must have one feilder behind the batter and can also have feilders standing on base's 1,2 and 3. However they must not obstruct the batter when he is attempting to score a run by running around the base's. Any deliberate obstruction could result in the batting team scoring a free rounder.
Football
Normal Football rules will apply however there will be no markings on the pitch so no throw-ins will be given and goal keepers can only handle in close proximity to their goal. Goals will be marked out using cricket stumps. If the ball goes out of play behind the goal then a goal kick to the defending team will be given no matter who kicked it out. There will be no penalty area however if a clear goal scoring chance is denied (eg. Handled on the line) then a penalty kick will be awarded. The game will be 30 mins eachway and the team scoring the most goals will be the winner. In the event of a tie then a penalty shoot out will decide the outcome of the match.
Cricket
The game will consist of an innings each. The innings will last either until every bowler has bowled 2 overs each or until every batsman is out. (eg. If there was 10 players per team then the maximum overs would be 20). There will be no bounderies so no 6's or 4's can be scored only runs between the stumps. Batsmen can be out by either being caught, bowled or trapped LBW. Also they can get out by being stumped when attempting to run between the wickets to score runs. The team that scores the most runs will be declared the winner.
Anyway thats just a rough guide and to get this thing up and running I think we will need a minimum of 16 people which would make 2 teams of 8.
Please post your name on here if you would like to take part. Also tell your mates as not many people come on this site during the close season.
If we get enough numbers then a draw will take place to decide the 2 teams. One red team and one blue team. As we are all Aldershot fans those colours should be easy enough to get hold of either way!
I will be the ref/umpire for the games unless anyone else expresses their want to do it. Hopefully I can sort refreshments for the day as I imagine it will go on all afternoon and if we have time afterwards we can all hit a pub.
The deadline for the teams will be Friday 12th June so get your names in asap to avoid disapointment.

Right the draw for the teams was done tonight by myself and Fatboy. Ben pulled the names out the hat so blame him if you don't like your team. Obviously if some people drop out or don't turn up then slight changes might have to be made. The teams are as follows:
RED TEAM
Vinnie Dylan Cook Chappie Fatboy (captain) Elliot Neil Lewis Tonesy
BLUE TEAM
Jelly (capt) Little Badger Jack Watkin Hacker Gristy Big Badger Carl Gladman Luke Pitkin
Please can the captains ensure all their team members can make it and that they wear the relivent colour for their team. eg. If your in the blue team then please wear a blue T-shirt. The venue has been confirmed at Aldershot park and it starts at 12 midday so please arrive 15 mins early. Let the games commence!!!
ps. Refreshments will be provided
