Defender John Brough left the club on Saturday after making 20 appearances for the club. The 33 year old joined the Shots from Cheltenham Town during the summer and was viewed as a replacement for the experienced Ray Warburton.
He made his debut for the club on the opening day of the season in the home defeat by Tamworth but was forced to come off injured. He was thwarted with injury setbacks throughout the campaign and was unable to stake a regular place in the first team until October.
Talking to www.theshots.co.uk he said, "I had a conversation with Terry on Thursday and we agreed that things haven't worked out as we would have liked. Terry said that there was no deal available for next season which is understandable considering the amount of matches that I have played. It was agreed to terminate the deal to help save the club a bit of money and also to help me look ahead for my future".
The east midlander who has also served Shrewsbury Town and Hereford United continued, "I have only really had a maximum of four or five games in one go due to set backs and never been able to get into my stride which has been disappointing. I was hoping to come to Aldershot and help get them into the Football League but it wasn't to be". John was also helping out with the youth team and is looking to continue playing but also to get into the coaching side of the game.
John had a final message for the Shots supporters and said, "In 17 years of playing they are one of the best set of fans that I have worked for. They have had little to shout about this season but they have been fantastic both at home and away and that is a real credit to the fans and the club. They never really saw the best of me which is a shame but I wish everybody at the club every success for the future".
It's great to hear players say about our support. Perhaps we dont have the biggest away following but we do make the effort to try and lift the players.
