Chelsea get Ballack

Chelsea confirm Ballack capture

Midfielder Michael Ballack and Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho
Ballack is renowned for being a goalscoring midfielderChelsea have unveiled Germany captain Michael Ballack as their first signing of the summer.

The 29-year-old midfielder has joined on a free transfer following the expiry of his contract with Bayern Munich.

Ballack, who helped the German club to three league titles during his four years at the club, has signed a three-year deal with the Blues.

The club have also been linked with AC Milan striker Andriy Shevchenko in trying to bolster their attack.

Ballack rejected the offer of a new deal to stay with Bayern and was jeered by fans in his final appearance for the club against Borussia Dortmund.

His arrival will increase the competition in central midfield at Chelsea where Frank Lampard, Claude Makelele and Michael Essien have been regulars this season.

Lampard has reiterated his desire to stay at Chelsea despite apparent interest from Barcelona and, with Makelele employed in a holding role by manager Jose Mourinho, Essien may be most under threat.

Ballack began his career with Chemnitz and has had spells at Kaiserslautern and Bayer Leverkusen before moving to Bayern Munich.

He was been crowned German footballer of the year in 2002, 2003 and 2005.

I THINK CHELSEA ARE GOIN TO RUN INTO A FEW PROBLEMS IN THE NEAR FURURE. THEY HAVE SO MANY WORLD CLASS PLAYERS, AND THEY KEEP SPENDING. SOON THEY ARE GONNA HAVE TOO MANY QUALITY PLAYERS SITTIN ON THE BENCH NOT PLAYIN AND THEN WANTING TO LEAVE THE CLUB

i think a perfect example is wright-phillips, was playing some cracking footy at city, was in the england squad, then moves to chelsea. sits on the bench every game, is unable to produce the quality he used to and has lost his place for the world cup.

now ballack has joined, i think he has to move elsewhere. maybe with critts gone a move to aldershot????
