As this is our first home game and considering the opposition, I think its the perfect oppertunity for a big display. As Helen Chamberlin is a Torquay Utd fan there is a good chance she is gonna be at the Rec. So if we do enough to impress her we might even get a mention on Soccer am......how cool would that be?!! What does every1 else think about this and has any1 got any ideas?
You say that Dave but it's only because they saw what was on it before they could stop us using it. If they didn't see what was written on it the days before we did it then they wouldn't have known about it and they wouldn't have time to stop us. But nevermind that was a while ago now...
I've got an idea.......
Those letters that were at the back of the EB on Tuesday vs CP.. We attach them further forward somewhere and hold them at a slant with LOTS of confetti and red and blue balloons. That's quite easy to do and if we win our first match then I imagine there will be lots of people at the game so it'd look quite good.
It's been done at home aswell, but I can't find the picture. The only problem with this is that as you can see in the picture, it had an extra red panel on the bottom. It doesn't have this anymore, as I think Alex took it off for more flags. If it had the right amount on it, it could reach half way up the East Bank, which they were originally designed for. If we could put them on, it would look pretty decent.
We can just hold the strips instead or whatever so it'd be "different" with confetti also.
We need to plan AHEAD and get ideas BEFORE, not just wait until it's too late.
Remember also, displays don't have to have 'Aldershot' or 'Red Blue Army/RBA' on them as long as they are hopefully red and blue.
Are we going to make this work for this season or not? Yes, it will probably be difficult but we have to keep trying to do DIFFERENT, more original things.
But on a serious note, I do like Martin's idea of using the ALDERSHOT stripes. If we can get the red bits put back on, with a load of confetti, it'd look quality!
Maybe we could just do stripes without anything on, say RED BLUE RED BLUE RED BLUE RED BLUE all a few metres apart. Easy display as it justs means chopping material at different places.
We could do something about Helen Chamberlain, but it mustn't be the main display. Doing something corporate would make us look stupid in front of the eyes that matter. Maybe something brought out halfway through the game or something. But it can't be the main display.
I still agree that using the stripes, with the additional red bit on the bottom would look pretty good. Add confetti, and we've got something that's never been done before, by any ultras group in the UK.
You could always do your main display before kick off and then something for Helen before the second half kicks off? ie the red and blue card idea or something else. Personally I could care less if a bunch of flag making football fans up and down the country think we look stupid because we did a main display featuring Helen, I can safely say the opinion of people I do not know will certainly not phaze me in the slightest.
If the display refering to Helen is good enough to get a mention by herself or someone brings the display to her attention then it will inevitably have been a success and those who laughed at you would be licking their wounds wishing they'd thought of it first.
Anyhow I'm not fussed either way I just think a display for Helen would be funny and I don't care if it's the main display, half way through the game or whatever.

I can't see why we can't do both? they are both good ideas and there should be enough RBA members there to pull it off considering its 1st home game. The HC banner would only take 2 people to carry it down to the high street end and organise the fans there to hold it up. Obviously makin it would take some effort but seeing as we've already got the materials it would just need a few hours work. BTW.......I've ordered 50 red balloons and 50 blue to help towards the display.....should look good with the stripes and the confetti.
Well I have got the balloons now so thats 1 part sorted....................
Who is doing confetti?
Who is sorting stripe banners?
Fatboy have you still got lining paper and paint so we can do Helen banner? If so perhaps a few of us could meet up 1 evening before the match to paint it?

Anything I missed?
I'm pretty sure Dan Rogers has 1 or 2 boxes of confetti. I guess he's been making more over the summer though, as he has mentioned.
I have the stripe banners, however, I have said many times, they need an extra panel of red material added to them.
The lining paper and paint is up Daves, however, if I can pick it up, and we can sort out a decent slogan, then I'll do it myself, as it is very much a one-man job.
Right well sounds as if most things are being sorted apart from red stripes and what the slogan will be. I will start a new topic on suggestions for Helen Chamberlin slogans so every1 can have a say. Then I suggest we all vote at the next meeting as to which 1 is best to use. Sound fair enough? As for the red stripes, that is obviously gonna take some work on the sewing machine. I guess that is Dave Becks domain but I personally would be willing to help when I'm back from Holiday but can only do evenings. Will speak to Dave about it at Charlton game.
That sounds like a hint Mr FATBOY for someone else to do the strips. I've already said I'll do them if I can get them plus a bit of red material?? or is there none left??
Or I'll do half, someone else does the other 4 (I know there's 9 letters)
u want our display 2 get a mention on soccer a.m we wont if any thing offensive is on a banna i mean ok fair enuff i eman we should do summin with a bit of comedy if we r gunna do n e thing like that but yer the stripes would b gd its jst sewing it i aint got a sewing machine (well i av but its broke) not happy!!!!!! the good thing about this sort of display will mean we can give the flags a bit of a rest we av milkd them a bit i think
