Sorry if this is in the wrong bit, but I was just thinking that its about time we got ourselves a song that is ours. I know we've got apache, but I think we need a song thats actually got words in it, and to be honest singing "Come on the Shots" all afternoon gets very boring. I think it should be a relativley simple and well known song so it catches on quicker. I've found a few clubs 'anthems' for a wee bit of inspiration.
I'll get the ball rolling and suggest 'Run' by Snow Patrol http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=9Qen3Xovtfc Light up, light up As if you have a choice Even if you cannot hear my voice I'll be right beside you dear
Louder louder And we'll run for our lives I can hardly speak I understand Why you can't raise your voice to say
There is one important factor - the song has to sound ok when sung by many who actually cannot sing (if you get what I mean) choosing something like the Snow Patrol song above is great if you have the band singing it - I know that if I try and sing it - it sounds awful! I know i have banged this drum a bit before - and the immediate reaction is that it is a naff song for football - but the Tartan army favourite these days is the one from sound of music (doe a deer a female deer...) and you repeat it over with ''which brings us back to Doooooooeeeeee, Doe a deer..) It sounds brilliant when they sing it - and is very upbeat (something we cannot say about Apache!) and no other club side in England or Scotland will be singing it! If anyone else has been to a Scotland game recently (not that likely I know) I am sure they will vouch for the fact that it sounds superb I think you are right to bring it up Wob - but difficult to get ''buy in'' from the massess - just look at the new Scotty Davies song (or rather listen)
I take your point 'Bob' about not being able to sing, but You'll never walk alone has to be proof that you dont have to have loads of talented singers to make it sound good? :D
Have you got the words or a video of this Scotland song?
Sung quite a bit on Europe´s terraces and here in sunny Tenerife is "Moonlight Shadow" by Mike Oldfield. I kid you not.
Now you will have to invent some words ofcourse but the chorus would go instead of "Carried away by a moonlight shadow" something like this "We love you Aldershot!" Or just lo lo lo lo "We love you Aldershot" repeat.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8bOLkPbPCbk&feature=related
The Shots on Saturday makes me happy The Shots can some times make me cry The Rec and the East Bank looks so lovely The Shots almost always makes me high
If I had a day that I could give you Id give to you a day just like today If I had a song that I could sing for you Id sing a song to make you feel this way
The Shots on Saturday makes me happy The Shots can some times make me cry The Rec and the East Bank looks so lovely The Shots almost always makes me high
Would need speeding up a bit, and could possibly do with a bit of tweeking, but I think that's pretty good.
Doe, a deer, a female deer Ray, a drop of golden sun Me, a name I call myself Far, a long long way to run Sew, a needle pulling thread La, a note to follow sew Tea, I drink with jam and bread That will bring us back to do...oh oh oh
Well I was thinking.........What with all these Eastender look-alikes we've got why don't we do the Eastenders theme!!??? We've even got the drums for the drum bit!!
