The Drum, Again.....

I'm sorry to say this, but the drum skin has gone again. The one that was bought by someone off of Shotsweb didn't hold up to the battering we gave it at Torquay. I have no idea why. I've been told by a lad sitting next to me (who plays a marching drum for a cadets band) that it probably wasn't thick enough.

Well, I've been looking online, and the exact same skins that are on the drum at the moment are £29. Is there any chance a load of RBA members could chip in a little, and see what we can make up?

I know this sounds stupid, but the same was going to happen at the weekend, and that never materialised, so maybe we could do it this weekend? The bass drum won't be at the game on the weekend, simply because it won't sound any good, so I'll try and do a whip round Saturday and see what we can get.

I'm not trying to be greedy or stupid here, but we all know the drum is integral to our suppport, so if we get enough at the weekend, I'll order the skin asap.

Thanks......

ok.....

i would suggest that we buy 2 new skins for it. you would need - 1. a batter head
2. a bass head

i am willing to ring andertons in guildford and see how much they would charge for these. if the price is good i will talk to fatboy and hopefully will go over there and pick them up.

everyone who is willing to chip in i would suggest that you give money to one the rba members on saturday at ebbsflet or friday night at chappies party, it will then be forwarded to fatboy.

im not so sure this was the case. i dont think it was tuned on tight enough. Also, they are designed for kit drums so that also could be why??

It doesnt take a genius to work out it wasn't the right sort of skin. Just get the ones we have been getting for years, they are more exspensie but atleast they dont need replacing every game.

Its about time the R.B.A. got its priorities right and brought the skins itself. We have enough flags and whatever, so why do we keep spending more money on material and poles. Its about time we spent the bonus ball monies on the drum, after all, i have seen no proof of perchase to anything that my monies go to, ie receipts etc, this is the third bonus ball draw which amounts to £150. It would be nice not only to have the drum done but to know that the sound it makes every week was at least sponsored by ourselves, after all, it is a major part of the R.B.A. scene. Get it sorted, and perhaps in future, we could have a book and receipts to show where our monies are going. Im not knocking the work the R.B.A. does, but sooner or later more people will want to know where the large amounts of our monies are going, and the people responsable should be able to do this and cover their own back.

I agree that the drum is an important part of the RBA. I'm not sure what Alex did when he needed a new skin wheter he took it out of RBA or his pocket but I think doing a whip - round is the best thing to do as then people can feel a sort of "ownership" over it. Then however much needs to be paid the RBA can try and make up.
Im sure you will agree that the same flags get boring and old, we want to be doing bigger and better things all the time!

This is currently in progress. It is hard work as 1 person cant buy everything so getting receipts back to the same place can be quite difficult! However I have the money and have got a large amount of receipts! I am aiming to get this all on paper as soon as possible!

quite agree...
it makes me sound and feel tight but people pay their membership and the amount of times people have been kind enough to donate some sort of cash (thank you to them) you wouldnt join the legion and pay a door fee?
i think we need a meeting decide on fund raising or saving funds we have plenty of flags if something special comes up it doesnt cost alot to do what flagboy done at exeter away a couple of years back and it was excellent.

either the rba pay for the drum, we have a whip round from members and non members, have a fund raiser or we go without.

i suggest if we have the whip round pay for the drum skin then what ever is left goes to phyliss tuckwell, put towards the snare drum or kept for the future to be used only for the drums

sorry rant over

At least it made it to Torquay, and hopefully they'll come through for the FA Trophy final

Dan, i'm with you on this one, u do need to up date the flags for me £5 a year is not a lot of money. But the problem you then have is people pay their membership fee and expect you to account for this, the drum is a big part of the RBA as are the flags so maybe a rethink with tim, fatboy, and your-self could solve this matter or ask the members what they think? At the end of the day no one is forced into joining or paying for the RBA bonus ball. I understand that the £5 membership would hardly pay for some of the flags that you've done because at times the've been top draw Torquay for example. you do need to raise funds but work together. I run my own business mate i know its hard keeping everyone happy

Keep up the Good Work
